Jimmie Johnson was outdueled by Brad Keselowski for last season's Sprint Cup title, but a new study ranks the five-time champion first among NASCAR drivers in social media.
Johnson's social media reach includes 657,062 likes on Facebook, 348,402 followers on Twitter, 265 subscribers on YouTube and a NASCAR industry-leading 60,618 followers on Instagram for an aggregate total of 1,066,347.
The optimistic view: Johnson lost 27 points at Phoenix International Raceway on Sunday, while in the NASCAR Nationwide Series, Elliott Sadler lost 20 points to leader Ricky Stenhouse Jr. on Saturday at PIR. If Johnson can lose that much in one race, he can make that up in one race.
Not surprisingly, Johnson is taking the optimist’s point of view.
Johnson has that swagger
Not only did Johnson do everything he had to Sunday, he performed the way he expected to and the way everyone expected.
In his first three of championship season from 2006-2008, he won at Martinsville in October. In the other two, he finished second and fifth. So this was a track where he was supposed to run well.
And he knew it. Ever since his victory this year at Indianapolis, he said he felt his team had everything in place to peak at the right time.
